Description
Knit like a Viking – Nalbinding workshop
Nalbinding is a very old method of making wooden fabric, using a needle and yarn. It is considered to predate knitting and crochet by about 2000 years, and is mainly seen as a Scandinavian craft, although examples have been found across the world. It is likely to have been used by Vikings to make gloves, hats, socks and other small items. It is made using the equivilent of a darning needle, as opposed to knitting needles or crochet hooks.
This workshop will introduce you to the craft, and give you plenty of time to learn some basic stitches.
All equipment and materials are provided (we will use my own hand spun wool), and you can take extra supplies home so that you can keep practicing.
Suitable for age 12+ and all under 18’s to be accompanied by an adult.
There will be a maximum of 6 in the class – why not treat yourself and a friend? No experience is needed!
Tea, coffee and homemade cakes or scones are included in the cost of the workshop, which is based in my workshop, close to the shores of Strangford Lough.
Cost – £30 per person
